For the Donuts

  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk or whole milk

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, bring apple cider to a boil and reduce to about 1/2 cup. Let cool.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, buttermilk, vanilla extract, egg, and cooled reduced apple cider.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet, mixing until just combined.
  • Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let cool for 5 minutes, then remove from the pan.
  • For the coating, mix sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Brush each donut with melted butter and roll in the cinnamon sugar.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cloves or allspice to the batter!
